Blue Line Kolkata Metro
The Blue line, also known as Line 1, is one of the oldest and most important lines of the Kolkata Metro network.
The construction of the Kolkata Metro began in 1972 and the first section of the Blue line, from Esplanade to Bhowanipore, was opened on 24 October 1984. The line was gradually extended in phases, reaching the southern end of Kolkata in 2010 and the northern end in 2021.
The Blue line runs from Dakshineswar in the north to Kavi Subhash in the south, covering a distance of 31.365 kilometres (19.489 mi) and serving 26 stations. The line has three sections:
The first section, from Dakshineswar to Noapara, is 6.72 kilometers (4.17 miles) long and includes six stations. It was opened in two phases, with the Dakshineswar to Baranagar section opening in 2021 and the Baranagar to Kavi Subhash section opening in 2010.
The second section, from Noapara to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, is 24.98 kilometers (15.52 miles) long and includes 19 stations. This section was opened in phases between 1995 and 2009.
The third section from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhash is 1.69 kilometers (1.05 miles) long and includes only one station. This section was opened in 2009.
