DMRC

The Delhi Metro is a mass rapid transit system that started its operation in 2002. It is made and operated by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which is a joint venture of both the Government of India and Delhi.

Delhi Metro Lines

Delhi Metro consists of 10 different lines and 255 stations and is spread over a total distance of 348.12. The details of different lines are as under:

Red Line Delhi Metro

The Red Line runs from Shaheed Sthal to Rithala. It’s a distance of around 34.5 km or 21.4 mi and an operating speed of 33 km/hr. It started operation on December 25, 2002, and has 29 metro stations.

Green Line Delhi Metro

The Green Line runs from Shaheed Kirti Nagar to Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh. It’s a distance of around 29.64 km or 18.41 mi and an operating speed of 90 km/hr. It started operation on April 3, 2010, and has 23 metro stations.

Yellow Line Delhi Metro

The Yellow Line runs from Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre. It’s a distance of around 48.8 km or 30.32 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on December 20, 2004, and has 37 metro stations.

Blue Line(Main) Delhi Metro

The Blue Line is running from Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City. It’s a distance of around 56.61 km 35.18 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on December 31, 2005, and has 50 metro stations.

Blue Line(Branch) Delhi Metro

The Blue Line runs from Yamuna Bank to Vaishali. It’s a distance of around 8.51 km 5.29 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on January 6, 2010, and has 8 metro stations.

Violet Line Delhi Metro

The Violet Line is running from Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh. It’s a distance of around 43.28 km 26.89 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on October 3, 2011, and has 6 metro stations.

Orange Line Delhi Metro

The Orange Line runs from New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21. It’s a distance of around 22.7 km 14.1 mi and an operating speed of 132 km/hr. It started operation on February 23, 2010, and has 34 metro stations.

Magenta Line Delhi Metro

The Magenta Line runs from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden. It’s a distance of around 38.23 km or 23.75 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on December 25, 2017, and has 25 metro stations.

Pink Line Delhi Metro

The Pink Line is running from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar. It’s a distance of around 58.59 km or 36.41 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on March 14, 2018, and has 38 metro stations.

Grey Line Delhi Metro

The Grey Line runs from Dwarka to Dhansa Bus Stand. It’s a distance of around 5.19 km or 3.22 mi and an operating speed of 60 km/hr. It started operation on October 4, 201, and has 4 metro stations.

Advantages

2. Delhi Metro has a very strict security system and about 5,200 CCTV cameras have been installed which cover every nook and corner of each Metro station. 10

3. Tourist cards can be used for unlimited travel on the Delhi Metro network over short periods of time and are valid for one and three days respectively.

Disadvantages

1. Due to the frequently expanding network, high ridership in new trains has led to increasing instances of overcrowding and delays on the Delhi Metro.

2. The Metro fares are comparatively higher than the bus services the metro replaced which have been routinely criticized.

Conclusion

With 10 different lines and 255 stations, Delhi Metro is the largest network of Indian Metrorail systems which provides commutes to more than 8 million people on a daily basis. The Metro has been promoted as an integral part of community infrastructure by depicting the local life artwork displayed at stations.
