Purple Line Kolkata Metro
The Purple Line or Line 3 is a new metro line with a total length of 6.49 km (4.03 mi), running from Joka to Tartala. It was inaugurated on 30 December 2022. It runs along Diamond Harbour Road, Khidirpur Road, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road, which are major arterial roads in Kolkata. The purple line has an interchange facility with the under construction section at Esplanade (Blue Line). It is India’s first metro line which runs on indigenous head hardened rails.
The work is in progress for the extension of this line to IIM and Diamond Park for 2 km (1.2 mi) which is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The new stations will be located at Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakherbazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar, Taratala, Majerhat, Mominpur, Kidderpore, and Esplanade.
